Service Description

Join Eaglecrest High School science teacher and international mountain guide Mike Haugen for an unforgettable journey to the top of the world. In this presentation, Mike will share stories and images from his two successful Mt. Everest expeditions - where he witnessed both the awe-inspiring beauty and the stark dangers of the world's highest mountain. From avalanches and altitude to the vibrant culture of Nepal and the resilience of the human spirit, Mike's experiences reveal what it takes to endure, adapt, and succeed in extreme environments. Along the way, he'll discuss how his lifelong passion for climbing began, how it evolved into a 23-year guiding career, and how those lessons translate to the classroom and to life. This is a story of perseverance, preparation, and perspective from someone who has stood on the highest point on Earth - twice. Fremont Building - 14603 East Fremont Avenue, Centennial 80112 Presenter Mike Haugen has been teaching since 2003 and has spent the past 15 years at Eaglecrest High School, where he teaches science and shares his enthusiasm for discovery and challenge with his students. In addition to the classroom, Mike has spent over two decades as an international mountain guide, leading expeditions on some of the world's highest and most remote peaks. His love for the mountains began at age 16 with rock climbing and quickly expanded into major alpine pursuits throughout the Rockies and beyond. After earning a degree in biology and a Master's in evolutionary biology from The Ohio State University, Mike began guiding for Rainier Mountaineering, Inc, in 2003. Since then, he has completed over 150 summits of Mt. Rainier, 14 expeditions on Denali, and two successful ascents of Mt. Everest, among many others around the globe. Balancing his twin passions for teaching and climbing, Mike continues to inspire others - students and climbers alike - to explore, persevere, and find meaning in challenge.
